  • Building a Simple Blog Engine with ASP.NET MVC and LINQ - Part 4

Finally the fourth part of my article series entitled Building a Simple Blog Engine with ASP.NET MVC and LINQ has been published on ASP Alliance. In the fourth part of this series, Keyvan talks about the unit testing concepts related to the MVC pattern and how Microsoft has adapted these concepts for its ASP.NET MVC framework. He shows these principles and the process that should be followed to unit test an ASP.NET MVC application. The fourth part is all about unit testing principles in MVC pattern...

  • Change the Order of Data Members in Data Contracts in WCF

Programming with Windows Communication Foundation requires you to have some specific knowledge for this technology (as any other technology). One of the several things that I believed about WCF in the past three years of working with this technology is the fact that there is always a point that you don't know about it. In the current post I'm going to talk about one of these simple and maybe obvious points that I didn't know and just found it recently. Usually we work with an upper level...

Novak Istvan is one of the top active members of the Visual Studio Extensibility community who has contributed unique and great stuff to this community. Novak is very well-known for his CodePlex project called LearnVSXNow! and his great English blog about VSX that includes many articles about VSX development. Novak has written a series of articles about VSX based on his own code or the existing open source code from the community in order to teach VSX to readers. He has chosen a practical approach...

  • An Introduction to Telligent Dynamic Configuration

Those who use Telligent products like Community Server or Graffiti CMS, would been able to notice a change in the way that Telligent has improved usability of its products and has made the configuration easier via user interface rather than XML configuration files. Prior to Community Server 2008, you had to use XML manipulation operations in order to fetch data and work with them in API. With the birth of Graffiti CMS, you can see that everything is configurable via the user interface and a developer...

  • Some Suggestions to Have a Better Microsoft Community

We're all a part of a big community known as Microsoft community which, for itself, consists of several smaller communities like ASP.NET community or C# community. One of the common things and activities around Microsoft community is finding some ways to keep it active and make it better day after day and many guys provide their suggestions and opinions to achieve this. On the other hand, every year Microsoft and its partners spend a good amount of money and other resources to achieve their goals...

  • Is There Anything Sweeter Than Blogging?

The answer is obvious: yes, there are many things! My regular visitors may have noticed a change in my blogging recently. During the past three years of blogging I always had an active blog and it never happened to have 4 posts in 10 days when I'm not away. I had a more active blog even when I was completely away to military training last year! One of the side-effects of doing a regular work for a long time is when you change your manner, you feel bad for a while and now I have that feeling!...

  • Use Fiddler to Test RESTful WCF Services

Fiddler is one of the common tools for .NET developers especially for ASP.NET developers who try to debug their HTTP requests and responses. But Fiddler is a more general product for debugging any HTTP request and response. So this great tool can be used for testing any hosted site or service. Here I want to show you how you can use Fiddler to test RESTful Windows Communication Foundation services in .NET 3.5 (or 3.0). I don't want to step in details of creating a RESTful WCF service. .NET 3...

  • Dual Monitors

Got my second monitor today, and hehe, I don't have enuf room for both of them. :P But I managed. O and if your wondering what that bottle is doing on top of the shuttle, that's my signal booster bottle. It improves the TV signal so it's watchable when not in full screen.
  • My Military Service After Fourteen Months

Yes, believe it or not, but now I'm going to start the last six months of my mandatory military service. You know that I give a short status of my service on a regular basis and now I've passed the 14th month to talk about it! Today I also finished a year in the organization. Last year this time, I finished my military training to join the organization and now I'm an old guy at the service office! I never could imagine that I can get to this point and at first glance it seemed too hard...

  • Athena 2008

It's coming.... The beta of Athena 2008 should be released in may, with the RTM planned for July 2008. Athena 2008 will sport a huge amount of AJAX, almost 2x the amount of Athena. It will be for CS 2008 ONLY , and contain a semi update the theme. The drop down menu's have been replaced with Drop line menu's, to take up less room. The next and previous buttons utilize JavaScript to scroll between the items in the drop line menu. The athena bar will get a slight update, when you change...
  • File Lock Issue in Visual Studio When Building a Project

One of the common issues for Visual Studio users is a file lock error when trying to build projects. This is a generic error for all developers but is more common among Visual Studio Extensibility developers who try to build add-ins and debug them. I see that a newbie has to wrestle with this issue when developing an add-in. Here I just want to show one of the several ways to work around this issue and of course, want to talk about a simple and easy to use solution. This has been a question for a...
