  • Foundations of ASP.NET AJAX

It was a while since the last time that I had a chat with my dear friend, Kourosh, until today when I could have a short chat with him and asked about the status of his new book about ASP.NET AJAX and surprisingly he told me that his book is printed and is ready for order. From some months ago, Kourosh was working on a new book title for APress about ASP.NET AJAX with two other authors. This book is Foundations of ASP.NET AJAX . My greetings to Kourosh for the new book and the great job that he has...
  • Tales From an Applied Mathematics Graduate

This may be a useless post for my normal visitors but sometimes you need to speak something loudly! It may be helpful for someone to stop him or her from experiencing what you have experienced! One of the most important aspects of blogging is the way that it helps bloggers to share their own experience with others. Experience is a priceless thing that costs as much as our life! During the school days and when I hadn't gone to university to study Applied Mathematics, I loved mathematics so much...
  • CS Nuglet: CS2007.1 fix for "Unable to start debugging"

When you fire-up the CS2007.1 SDK and go to debug the first time you may encounter the Visual Studio error message, Unable to start debugging on the web server. The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may be because the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see the Help file of assistance. The fix this is going into the Web Project properties and in the web tab change CS2007.1's default Web Server from http...
  • Create RSS and Atom Feeds with LINQ and WCF Syndication in .NET 3.5

Last week after finishing manuscripts of my book , I promised to get back to regular blogging and give more stuff about programming and .NET especially about newly released .NET 3.5 so here you go! It's been a long time since the last time that I sent a blog post with programming codes, isn't it?! One of very nice additions to .NET 3.5 is the Syndication library for Windows Communication Foundation which lets you create RSS and Atom feeds and deal with data from existing feeds easily. You...
  • Community Server Byte for November 27, 2007

blog bits The Ajax Ninja, who blogged about ongoing problems with CS2007 on DiscountASP.NET, reports that DiscountASP.NET is discontinuing support for Community Server 2007 because it exceeds their 100MB app pool policy. More specifically, they've removed advertisements and "all content about CS" from their website. Sounds to me that with client-focused moves like this, if you need a host to run Community Server 2007 (on a Virtual Private Server, of course), that DiscountASP.NET should...
  • Change the Product Key in Visual Studio Installer

Following to Scott Guthrie's post with some answers to common questions about Visual Studio 2008 , I just want to point out how to change the default product key in Visual Studio installer. You know that by default, Visual Studio installer doesn't allow the change in the product key and you just can view it. While you can upgrade your trial editions easily (as Scott has outlined), you may be interested to have a single installer with your product key to use everywhere when you want. This...
  • First Graffiti Beta Coming This Week

As Rob wrote earlier today, Telligent is going to release first Beta and also first public release of its Graffiti CMS this week. Many of you probably know about Graffiti from blogs posts, videos and other resources but for those who don't know, I'd recommend this video to watch. As I outlined recently, Graffiti was a clever decision by Telligent leadership to fill the gap between a simple cheaper CMS and an enterprise online platform for communities. Scott has written the philosophy behind...
  • Athena Config

Coming to beta 3 of athena, will be the athena configuration file and schema. This file will allow you customize athena's core, including the drop down boxes, the predefined styles (new feature), the variant settings (RC feature), and the fonts. All in one file, which can be uploaded into the theme configuration file if needed. By default there wont be one, and will use the inbuilt defaults and the theme configuration. Attached is a sample Athena.xml file. In the file you can see the new drop...
  • Pre-Order Professional Visual Studio Extensibility

Today I finished writing manuscripts of my forthcoming book, Professional Visual Studio Extensibility . 23rd November was our expected date for checking in all manuscripts and I'm happy that I've been able to manage timeline very well. Now that we're closer to finishing our work on the book and just need to review chapters in a few weeks, I want to begin promoting book and introducing it to the community. Most likely current release date (end of March) is possible because everything is...
  • Almost, GFX card KIA

I think my GFX card frooze my pc again today, while playing FSX. Restarted the machine (hard reset) and the monitor wouldn't start. Anyhow, my GFX card had a heart attack earlier, so it's almost Killed in Action. O ***! Thankfully just before I started playing I ordered a new 8600 GT off ebuyer for £70. Thinking that I needed a fully DX10 gfx card. That was good thinking on my half. Managed to get the PC working again, after taking the gfx card out and leaving it on by my window to cool down...

  • Using Vista x64 as a Platform

For a long time I've been using two machines for my daily works and development. As time went, I belief that managing both machines is a waste of time and is getting annoying thing for me especially because I've had a very limited time in the recent months after beginning the service. On the other hand, leaving that state wasn't so easy and needed much time and effort to find a solution. After listening to a podcast by Scott Hanselman about Vista x64 and using it as a platform for running...
  • Code is Not Provable

Here is just a following to the recent conversation between Phil Haack and Frans Bouma about the unit testing and provability of codes.  First of all, I would say that I'm with the idea of that neither unit testing can prove the correctness of the code nor cam improve it. In chapter 22 of his software bible, Code Complete, Steve McConnell outlines some important points about developer testing approaches and their effect on software. There are some approaches in developer testing such as...
  • Visual Studio 2008 Released

There is nothing better than seeing the news about the final release of Visual Studio 2008 after getting back to home after a very bad day. Visual Studio 2008 is available for download for MSDN subscribers and we can consider this as official release of Visual Studio 2008. Of course, the launch day is later in February 2008. As a .NET developer who spends much of his time in this IDE everyday, this is important news for me but more than this, it's important because of the correlation of my forthcoming...
  • Blogging on Professional Visual Studio Blog

After my post about Professional Visual Studio blog , Nick Randolph contacted me and we had a short email conversation. In this conversation he invited me to join him and Dave Gardner on their blog about Visual Studio and as this was a good offer for some reasons that I outline in a moment, I accepted and joined them to help Visual Studio community if I can. Since Nick and Dave are working on Professional Visual Studio 2008 title for Wiley/Wrox and I'm working on Professional Visual Studio Extensibility...
