  • Five (Or So) Things You Didn't Know About Me

All the cool kids are doing it (notably one of my favorite bloggers, Alex Barnett so if he's doing it , why not): During my tenure at boarding school up north, I was an alpine ski racer (downhill and super-g being my preferred events) and did reasonably well. Unfortunately my career was cut short for reasons I won't go into here. It was one of the few sports I had any "natural" talent at. I do not have a college degree, though I did attend a few semesters of college (I was a chemistry major). After...
  • "Thread Status" and "Mark as Answer" feature in Forums

One of my favorite features in Community Server is the "Thread Status" feature in Forums. Although the feature is not available on the "Personal Edition", I think is a high value feature for communities, that want to treat each thread as a support case for members to resolve. The feature is easy to enable; in Control Panel/Administration/Forums/Global Forum Settings set the "Enable Thread Status Tracking" to "Yes". In order to enable the feature in a specific...
  • A Must Read for Community Server Site Owners and Administrators

Community Server Quickly If you are a Community Server site admin, owner or even a user then this is the book for you! Written in very easy to understand sections that covers everything from the installation and hosting all the way to using and customizing...
  • My Last Holdout Switches To Community Server

Hell hath frozen over...Bob has moved from subText over to Community Server (more info on his site here and here ) with some gracious help from BlogML . My job as a CS zealot here in NC is now done; most of the local bloggers I know are now on the CS platform. What's funny is that they have all run into the same gotchas for the most part, most notably how arcane it is to enable anonymous comments...seems like just yesterday I was yelling about the same problems. What's cool is that he found most...
  • Off to Kish Island

A few hours after sending this post, I'll leave home to fly to Kish island in Persian Gulf and spend three days there. I really need this short vacation and hope I can rest enough to back to daily routine after that. So this post is my last post in 2006. I'll be back after Eve next Monday. I don't take my laptop to update here so when I'm off comments will be moderated on Nayyeri.NET. Read More...
  • Dev Log Date 27.12.06 - New Year Variant

The 2007 new year variant is now up on NB Development , it maybe simple, but it's effective, lol. This shows the power of Aero 2.0, and the planned Aero 2.1 release for Jan is going to make variants easier to use. So enjoy the Near Year Variant, it'll be taken off the default variant on 3rd Jan 2007, next variant will be some kind of spring variant I think, lol. The NewYear Variant will be downloadable from NB Development tomorrow. Nice and simple tho, only 4 lines of CSS and 4 other files, lol....
  • Windows Live Writer and Community Server v2.1 SP2

The latest release of Community server, offers full support for the Windows Live Writer as it supports uploading images to a blog, without having to upload them to a gallery first. A problem might arise here, in case you do not use the English language. All the non-Latin characters of the post title are converted to their HTML equals in order to be transported over HTTP from Windows Live Writer. The routine that receives uses the data uses the Blog application methods to enter the data in the database;...
  • 2007 - Year of Rumi

I rarely write about this stuff but can't ignore this one. UNESCO designated new year (2007) "Year of Rumi " (known as Molana Jalal ad-Din Mohammad Rumi for Middle Easterns) one of most famous poets, jurists and theologians in the history. Next year we'll celebrate the 800th birthday anniversary of this great Iranian man. Surely he's one of a few men who could get my special attention from rich history of Iran and has been my only favorite poet. Like many other people around the world, for a long...
  • BlogML Used by Closing Community

As Darren has written , Ryan Rinaldi used our BlogML to export the content of Geekdojo blogs and make it possible for site bloggers to move their content to their own place. This is the first time I see that someone has used BlogML to export and move his content from Community Server but they're not unhappy with Community Server, there is a hosting problem! Hopefully I'll start planning for vNext new year. I also want to create a page for BlogML on Wikipedia to introduce it to more people. Read More...

  • AMD Opteron 180 Dual Core Processor Upgrade -- Thank You Santa!

I've been in the market for a dual core processor for a while now, but have been waiting for some of the prices to fall as well as just letting the dust settle over at AMD to see what panned out for their socket 939 architecture. Santa was kind enough to bring me an AMD Opteron 180 Dual Core this year for Christmas (each core running at 2.4ghz). The upgrade itself was a little bumpy; initially my motherboard didn't recognize the processor as anything other than a generic AMD dual core CPU...turned...

  • Another Year Ends

2006 ends in eight days. This year was a normal one for me. In these latest days I'm not as busy as rest of year and can spend time on my interests and enjoy my time. As you may know we don't start a new year because we use different calendar but last year all my contracts were international and this holiday is a good opportunity for me to rest for a while especially because I love rain and snow and want to sit somewhere and watch them! I'll have a short vacation in next two weeks so things may get...
  • Remove "WWW." from URLs in ASP.NET

As you see my site redirects all requests to any URL with "www." to a URL without it. This is the default behavior in Community Server, Subtext and some other web applications and I saw some sites that are doing this such as ASP Alliance and CSharpFeeds. I wanted to write about this some weeks ago but couldn't find the address of a site which recommends this functionality on internet sites. First time I saw it on Scott Water's blog but that post is not accessible due to a URL Rewriting exception...
